On the Boundaries of Science and Art
In February 2017, the spring seminar of SIRENE was held under the title “Science, art and the environment: critical, creative self-reflection” in Art and Museum Centre Sinkka in Kerava. The key goal of the seminar was to continue brainstorming around the interdisciplinary research projects launched in the autumn. Three themes were identified among the participants’ research interests: topics related to changes in school and education; questions related to outdoor learning and the relationship with nature; and questions related to transformative learning, multi-sensory integration and the significance of embodied experiences. In the seminar, Erkka Laininen, Asta Raami and Riitta Wahlström introduced listeners to education and research as drivers of change, the importance of intuition and creativity and the significance of the relationship with nature. The seminar ended with a tour of an art exhibition compiled by Minna Haveri where everyday things had been made visible through handicraft techniques.
